USEFUL INFORMATION

LOCATION

The site where the event will be held is the Facultad de Matemáticas (Faculty of Mathematics) of the University of Seville, located at the Campus of Reina Mercedes (cf. Avenida de la Reina Mercedes), on the south of Seville's downtown. The Mathematics building is very easy to recognise: the only one covered with yellow bricks.

HOW TO REACH SEVILLE

BY PLANE

Getting to Seville is easy. There are directs flights from many major European cities and from all over the world via Madrid or Barcelona. You will have no problem checking with your travel agent. Spanish national airline, Iberia, has flights from and to any country capital.  

The airport is 12 kms away (about 20 minutes by car) from the city centre. A taxi from the airport to the city centre will cost you 15€ (18€ on weekends). A bus service connecting the airport and the city centre is available, a bus departures every 30 minutes from 6 AM until 11 PM (click here to check timetable and all stops). Tickets are bougth on the bus, they cost 2.30€.

BY TRAIN

There are high velocity trains (AVE - Alta Velocidad Española) from Madrid. The trip from Madrid to Seville in these trains takes about two hours and a half. The train station (Estación de Santa Justa) is close to the city centre. For information about timetables and prices visit the web site RENFE (in English).

BY CAR

If you decide to bring (or rent) your own car, there are several major highways (motorways) leading to Seville; namely, A4 from Madrid; A45-A92 from Málaga.

 

THE CITY OF SEVILLE

Seville is one of the nicest cities in Spain. You can find some touristic information about Seville here, the official web site of Seville Touristic Office. HOTELS

<There will be a very limited number of rooms at the University Hotel (Colegio Mayor Hernando Colón). The price is around 30€, breakfast included. You can find some information here (in Spanish). This map shows you how close is this hotel from the faculty.

Additionally, there are also many other hotels in the city and near the Facultad de Matemáticas, where the event will be held. The prices of a quite good hotel can range from 50€ to 100€. The followings are the nearest hotels to the Facultad de Matemáticas, all of them are less than one kilometer (ten minutes walking) far away from it:

- Hotel AC - Ciudad de Sevilla (4*)

- Hotel Silken - Al-Andalus Palace (4*)

- Hotel Villa de la Palmera (4*)

CLIMATE

Seville, with an average annual temperature of 20C (68F), enjoys mild winters and hot summers. You can check the local weather forecast here.

 

SHOPPING HOURS

Shops are generally open from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.30 hours, Mondays through Saturdays. Department stores and malls usually open from 10.00 to 22.00 and do not close for lunch.

 

BANKS

Banks open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 or 9.00 to 14.00 or 14.30 and some banks open certain afternoons in the week. Almost every bank has a 24-hours automatic cash machine. There are five different bank branches in front of the Campus of Reina Mercedes.

 

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

An extensive public transportation network covers the whole of Seville. As well as single tickets (1€ each), which can be bought on the buses, there are 1 and 3 day travel passes (3€ and 7€ each) and 10 travels tickets (this one costs 5€ and allows you to change of bus line for one hour since you get on the bus). All of them can be bought in stationeries and tobacco stores all over the city. Lines 6 and 34 have stops in Avenida de la Reina Mercedes. This is the official web site (in Spanish).

 

RESTAURANTS

In most restaurants, kitchen opens from 13:00-16:00h at noon and from 20.00-24.00h in the evening.

Electricity is supplied at 220 V - 50 Hz AC with European standard plugs.
