As capital of Andalusia, it is the fourth largest city in Spain with a population of 704.114 inhabitants within the metropolitan area. The total population of some 105 towns within the province reaches 1.758.720 inhabitants who are spread out over an area of 14.042 square kilometers. Seville is considered without doubt, the artistic, cultural, financial, economic and social center of southern Spain.
Situated just 6 meters above sea level on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, the urban center extends towards the towns of Aljarafe, Las Marismas (salt marshes), the Doñana National Park and the Sierra Norte and Sierra Sur mountains.

By plain (SVQ). The new San Pablo International Airport, built by internationally acclaimed architect, Rafael Moneo, is located just 10 km from the city center. Taxi Airport-City. There is a fixed price for a trip from the airport to any location in the city and viceversa: 19,73€ (special price 22,00€ during the weekend and everyday from 21.00 to 7.00). Taxis stop in front of the main exit. In the services requested by phone, the amount marked in the taximeter till the collection of the passenger is added.
Car hire. Five companies have offices in the airport: Atesa, Avis, Crown Car Hire, Europcar and Hertz.
Other international airports near Seville are: Jerez, Málaga, Madrid. From these cities, Seville can be reached by plain, train or bus.

By train. The Santa Justa Train Station, built by Seville architects, Cruz & Ortiz, have received various European awards. This station serves as an important hub for connections between the Andalusian capital and all of the Autonomous Regions of Spain and Europe. Major train lines from Madrid, Malaga and Granada converge here. The AVE (high speed train) provides service to Madrid in just two and a half hours. A trip to Cordoba takes only 40 minutes. By renting bicycles. There are more than 150 bikes stations with more than 1.500 public bicycles for rent. The best way for using this service during a short stay is to buy the one week ticket (5 €). The first 30' are free of charge, the next hour costs 1€, and 2€ the rest of hours. The registration is made at any station; a credit card is needed (to charge 150€ as a deposit, which is returned at the end of the week). More info here.
