Dr. Javier Ávila-Román, Bachelor Degree in Biology (2008), got his PhD in Pharmacy (2014) at the University of Sevilla. His research was focused on inflammatory bowel diseases and microalgal oxylipins with anti-inflammatory potential, which was licensed. Currently, he is Martí i Franquès postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain). His research is focused on the low-grade chronic inflammation in an obesity context and the impact of gut microbiota in obesity-related pathologies through their regulation on plasmatic oxylipins by using -omic techniques. In addition, during these last two years, he has gained experience in working with several companies to study potential products for nutritional and cosmetical sectors.
