Dr. Patricia García-Sanz got her PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2011. She has a solid research experience of over 15 years on Neuroscience. For the last 8 years she has been working in Dr. Moratalla's laboratory at the Cajal-CSIC Institute. During this period, she has focused on the study of underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of the neurodegeneration associated with Parkinson's disease (PD) and elucidating the impact of mutations in GBA1 gene on the pathogenesis of PD through altered cholesterol metabolism. At this stage, she has acquired a specialized training thanks to several short stays in both national and international centers. In addition, she has participated in other research projects focused on determining the molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease, PD-associated dyskinesias, or drug addiction including neuroinflammation.
