Prof. Virginia Motilva Sánchez began her university training at the Faculty of Biology at the Complutense University of Madrid, but was completed at the University of Seville (US). From 1980-82, she was research assistant in the Department of Cell Biology (US). In 1987, she got her bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a predoctoral fellowship in the Pharmacology Department of the Faculty of Pharmacy (1987-91) (US). Her research activity began in the line of peptic ulcer pharmacology, in different animal models. These studies allowed her to obtain the Title of Doctor in Pharmacology in 1991 (Outstanding Cum Laude and Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the US, year 1990-91). Since then, she has had different research and teaching positions (Research Fellow, Associate Professor, Assistant, Senior Lecturer). Currently, she is Professor of Pharmacology, and coordinator of the Research Group "Molecular and Applied Pharmacology” FARMOLAP" (CTS-658, “Junta de Andalucía” - Spain).
Her main research topics are the search of new therapeutic targets in inflammation and cancer as well as bioactive compounds and natural products with photoprotective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, or anti-aging functions. Our group collaborates with pharmaceutical companies and different universities with the objective to participate in research and technological development of new pharmaceutical products. The results of her research activity are more than 100 international papers, product of many projects, contracts, and networks.
