Location and travel

Castro-Urdiales is a 28 000 inhabitants town of the seaside of Cantabria, in North of Spain. It is located on the way between Santander (main town of the region of Cantabria) and Bilbao (main town of the spanish Bask Country).

How to arrive

By plane

The best arrival airport is the one at Bilbao (Sondika airport). Castro Urdiales is 35 km far from Bilbao. You can reach Castro from Bilbao by autobus or taxi.

From Bilbao to Castro by bus: Regular buses from Bilbao to Castro leave from Bilbao Termibus (Bilbao coach station). To reach the termibus from the airport, see below. The company Bizkaibus-Encartaciones (tel: 946 363 424) connects Bilbao to Castro. There is a bus each 30 minutes and the price is 2.42 euros, which lasts around 50 minutes. This bus makes several stops in Castro. You can ask the drive about the best stop to go to the Hotel Las Rocas and/or Miramar (or to the Beach Brazomar, see the street guide).

From Bilbao airport to Bilbao Coach station: To go from the airport to the Termibus, take either a taxi (20 euros; teletaxi: 944 800 909) or the bus (frequence: every half an hour, price: 1,50 euros, duration: half an hour; more explanations in english here).

Another option is coming from Bilbao airport to Castro by taxi: around 50 euros, 25 minutes.

By bus

The company ALSA (tel: 902 422 242) have routes to Castro (coach station) from Bilbao Oviedo, Santander, San Sebastián, the french border (Irun), Vitoria, Pamplona and Zaragoza.

It is also possible to travel to Bilbao by bus from many spanish cities (e.g. Madrid, Barcelona) and some other european cities. Much information is available on the web site of ALSA.

By train

From Madrid: 6 hours long travel, the national railway company is RENFE.

By car
