Biography
Miguel A. Castro is the rector of the University of Seville (Spain) since January 2016 and the president of the Association of Ibero-American Universities for Postgraduate Studies (AUIP) since March 2019.
Pharmacist (1988), he holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Seville (1992) and counts on more than 32 years of experience as a professor and researcher in the area of Inorganic Chemistry at the same university, as well as more than 15 years of experience in the management of higher education institutions, especially concerning research, academic affairs and strategic planning and policies.
He has been responsible for the research group FQM-212 of the Andalusian Government since 2008 and in the past, he occupied a good variety of positions such as director of X-Ray laboratory (2005-2008), director of the Centre of Research Technology and Innovation of the University of Seville (2007-2008), director of the Secretariat for Research Centres, Institutes and Services (2008-2009), vice-rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Seville (2009-2015), and president of the Internationalization & Cooperation Board of the Spanish conference of Rectors (CRUE).
He was recognized with the Young Researchers Prize by the Royal Academy of Sciences of Seville and twice with the Award of Teaching Excellence (2002/2003 and 2005/2006).
