Roberto Escalante Semerena

Biography
Roberto Escalante is the current secretary general of the Union of Universities of Latin America and The Caribbean (UDUALC).
He is also a member of the Mexican Academy of Political Economy, a researcher of the National System of Researchers of Mexico and a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
In the past, he has held various positions in the Faculty of Economics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and, from 2002 to 2010, he was the director of the School of Economics at the same university.
In his academic sphere, he has been a professor in Economics of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development, Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Structure in Mexico. The University of Piura in Peru (2012) and the Catholic University of the Angels of Chimbote (2011) awarded him honorary doctorates, and the University Le Cordon Bleu in Lima, Peru, recognised him as an Honorary Professor in 2013. He is the author and co-author of several books, articles and other scholarly publications
Roberto Escalante earned his doctorate in Economics at Wye College (University of London) in 1986 and a masters in Agricultural Development at the same institution in 1980. He spent five months stay following courses in Economics at The Economics Institute at the University of Colorado, Boulder, United States (1979). He graduated from the Autonomous University of Mexico, where he studied for a degree in Economics, graduating with honours in 1975.
